ACUTE CARE
The risk of heart attack is 6 times higher during the week of flu illness than the year before or after.
Even mild COVID illnesses can be followed by long COVID symptoms for months. The more times we are sick with untreated COVID, the higher the chance of heart attack and difficulty thinking.
We test for flu and COVID and treat with Tamiflu and Paxlovid early in the illnesses in patient in whom the risk of complications is high, or for those desiring treatment early in the illness.
We refer out to nearby wound care surgeons for skin injuries or abscesses, and to same-day orthopedic clinics for Xray and possible casting after applying a splint for acute potentially serious skeletal injuries.
